My cats are on a diet – any suggestions/tips?

YOU DONT HAVE TO READ THE WHOLE QUESTION IF YOU DONT WANT TO; ITS MAINLY DETAILS!

I got my cats from a shelter, and they’ve always been a little chubby. But lately, its starting to get out of hand. I used to free feed them [access to food all day long] but I know that is bad for cats. I also just found out that it is dry food that makes our kitties overweight, so I’m switching to wet. We went out to get the wet food today. Its called “Authority – Adult” flavor: Ocean Fish Formula/Fish and Rice Formula [they're pretty picky and only have pate cuz they hate shredded and only eat seafood; nothing else cuz they're just that picky]

How do I go about feeding them? They’re over 15lbs [yikes, I know, they're chubb-a-lubs] hahahh but thats the weight they were when I adopted them..

What portions should I give them and at what times? How many minutes/hours of exercise do they need? I dont care if this takes a year to lose the weight – I don’t want them to have health problems!

P.S. They start their diet tomorrow

There are some tips for diet…..You can use and feel better:
•• Eat your veggies! Yes veggies are great home remedies for weight loss. We all know that veggies are good for you, but eating lots and lots of vegetables is especially important for weight loss. Vegetables have a low caloric density and a high nutrient density. What could be better..you get lots of nutrients without a lot of calories. If you are able to get organic veggies, that are even better, but if not, any vegetables are better than no vegetables. I aim to get at least 1-2 pounds of cooked or raw vegetables into my diet each day.
•• If you like smoothies, try whipping longer to incorporate more air into the drink. Studies have shown that individuals who consumed milkshakes that had been whipped longer to incorporate more air ate fewer calories than those who ate the same milkshake (same ingredients) with less time in the blender.3
•• Eating fruit also contributes to weight loss. A 2003 study showed that women who ate apples or pears lost more weight than those who didn’t.3
•
•• Try Eco-slim…a 100% safe herbal remedy that assists with weight loss. Use it as part of total dietary program. It is a specially formulated mixture of various herbs…Including bladder wrack, cayenne pepper, turmeric, ginger and licorice. These herbs are all stars on the home remedies for weight loss list. Get More Info on EcoSlim for Ephedra-Free, Safe Weight Loss

I’ve been doing loads of research on raw food health lately and have dabbled in the raw food diet. A book I recently finished that is amazing is http://www.amazon.com/Conscious-Eating-Gabriel-Cousens/dp/1556432852. It has everything you need to know about health and a ton of raw recipes. In the book, he suggests an 80% raw diet to be very healthy and much easier to adapt to than 100% raw.

Unless you can afford (or already have) a blender, a food processor, and a dehydrator, you won’t have much variation in the diet and you will need a lot of willpower to keep going. Going all raw also tends to be more expensive because fruit and especially veggies cost much more than rice and beans.

Healthy-soul.com (listed in my source) has some excellent recipes for raw food desserts and information about going raw. StevePavlina.com also has good information as well as a personal experimentation about doing a 30 day raw trial.

I myself have gone raw for about two weeks before returning to cook foods, mostly because I can’t afford eating large quantities of the various fruits that I love. =) And I really want a dehydrator to make raw breads and crackers and potato chips. Green smoothies will become a staple in your diet. =)

Even though I didn’t last very long, I still feel MUCH MUCH better after eating raw food as opposed to cooked food. All those enzymes really help in digestion. I try to eat 80% raw food which mainly consists of fruits, salads, raw trail mix, and soaked oatmeal. If you want to eat something cooked, it’s best to eat at least half of your food raw first before eating any cooked food. This will help with digestion and ensure you don’t get leucocytosis (a spark in white blood cells from eating cooked food).

Once you’re used to eating 80% raw, transitioning to 100% won’t be too hard. Good luck!

You can start now by running up & down the stairs
Jigging about to music
Doing star jumps etc whenever the ads come on TV
Try cooking veg you have never tried before or cooking some you have tried in completely ways.
Putting different ones together can give a quite different taste and texture.
You can also make them into smoothies which can be yummy

Sit ups are not the answer to a flat stomach. You need an all around fitness program. You need cardio (running, DDR, zumba ) , core workouts ( you Can find online) and throw in yoga or Pilates. Try mixing Chrystal lite into your water to make it taste better. You need water to be physically active! Good luck!

How can I get myself to do the health diet I am supposed to do?

I’ve always had problems with food. It’s not really that I eat too much, just that I eat the wrong things (junky things).

I have PCOS, and to stop having painful ovarian cysts, I am supposed to go wheat-free, dairy-free, low-carb, and eat lots of vegetables. Of course, all of the things that I crave the most are the things I have to quit eating (like pizza, cheese sandwiches, jalapeño Krunchers potato chips, etc).

Even though I had bad pain for about a day and a half this month, I can’t seem to make myself start doing the right things.
Don’t buy things you can’t eat. If they are not in the house you can’t have them. Try cutting how much you eat in half and slowly stop eating them if stopping all together is too difficult. Buy low fat cheese and have it thinly sliced. If you need to eat pizza buy the small ones instead of big ones.

Try to exercise more, take up cycling or fast walking. Swimming is really good for you too. You could go and see a dietician and get them to help you work out what to eat and how much exercise to do.

Don’t go for organic things (theyre better for you, sure, but too expensive)

Aim for fruits and veggies that are in season, don’t spend $5 on a pack of strawberries, for example.

Try to stay away from frozen dinners and processed foods, no matter how diet they say they are. Whatever you want in them, learn to make yourself.

Gather up whatever spices your mom has and try to use them. I just smell em and have a knack for knowing of theyll taste good in a certain dish or not. I also use pepper alot.

In order to not waste money/food, buy things you can use in several dishes, not just 1.

I hope you like leftovers, I usually have leftovers.

Spaghetti sticks, a bag of frozen veggies, potatoes, and eggs can all be used in different ways and they last a long time for 1 person.

I have a 5 year old Mini-Rex rabbit. Unfortunately, there are not enough Vets who specialize in rabbit care. While I have always been told if a rabbit is eating and sleeping and seems upbeat and playful, his health is fine, not to worry.

I have followed all the rules – in diet (Timothy hay, pellets, etc.), cage cleaning, exercise, grooming, environmental conditions, etc. for my pet rabbit. But he has had chronic diahhrea for several weeks.

He is not under stress (which I know also causes this) and the Vet specialists I have taken him too, don’t do anything other than offer antibiotic prescriptions which are not working.

Any legit advice here is appreciated. Thank you.

What type of pellet are you feeding him? It should be a plain pellet with about 16% protein. Try giving him more hay and less pellet, sometimes diarehea in rabbits is caused by them not getting enough fiber, i have also heard that feeding a small amount of toast helps, althought i have not tried this. Diarehhea can also be caused by a disease called enteritis, but this normally only hits young rabbits. I hope this helps.

Oh i thought of something else! Have you ever dewormed him? Rabbit can get worms and they can caused direhrea, de-worm him with piperzine.

admin answers:

At its most basic weight loss is all down to your daily calorie intake. If you eat less calories then your body needs you will lose weight. In this regard exercise just means you can eat more food then you could without exercise. If you’ve no interest in exercise you just need to track your calories, and aim for between 500-1000 calories below your daily maintenance level.

You can track your calories, and calculate your daily calorie requirements on one of the following sites:

http://www.livestrong.com/myplate/

http://www.sparkpeople.com/

http://www.calorieking.com.au/

I’d strongly advise you do so to begin with as it’ll give you a greater understanding of how many calories different foods have. It might surprise you how many calories foods that people consider to be healthy and ideal for weight loss actually have. For example, 100g of uncooked pasta, which is about a handful, is around 250-350 calories.

These basic steps should be enough to get you started with your weight loss, but if you want to fine tune your diet a bit there’s more you can do. The main thing you can do is reduce the amount of carbohydrates in your diet. Carbohydrates are found in foods like pasta, bread, starchy vegetables, rice, sugar, and other foods that make up a big part of the modern diet.
The problem with carbohydrates is that when you eat them your body produces insulin, and insulin plays a major role in the production and storage of fat. If you combine fat and carbohydrates in a meal then you are providing the body with everything it needs to store as much fat as possible.

Ideally you should aim for your calories to come from 40% protein, 40% fat, and 20% carbohydrates. The level of fat might seem high, but you need to remember that dietary fat is not the same as the fat in your body. When you eat fat it’s broken down and used immediately to provide energy to the body, and only stored when you are either consuming a lot of carbohydrates, or eating more calories than your body needs. If you are on a diet this won’t be a problem.

The following is a list of high carbohydrate foods to avoid:

http://www.buzzle.com/articles/list-of-high-carbohydrate-foods.html

And here’s high protein food:

http://commonsensehealth.com/Diet-and-Nutrition/List_of_High_Protein_Foods.shtml

Next, exercise. You don’t need to exercise, but it’ll help you get fitter and improve your body shape. I’d recommend regular cardio exercise, such as jogging, or jumping rope, but high intensity stuff like Zumba will do as well, and if you enjoy it that’s even better.
I’d recommend 3 sessions of cardio exercise a week at a minimum, and if you are going to start jogging then I’d recommend the Couch to 5k plan, which is ideal for beginners :

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

If you want a great body shape you should aim to go to the gym 3 alternate days a week, and remember the key to building muscle is doing a few sets of a low number of reps at the highest weight you can manage. People who pick up tiny weights and lift them 250 times are basically doing very inefficient cardio exercise that doesn’t do anything to build muscle.

Toning is just reducing body fat and increasing muscle mass. Anything that suggests you can “tone” by doing some light weight exercise lots of time is really taking a very inefficient route to improving the shape of your body.

With weight lifting it depends whether or not you have access to a gym. If you do I suggest you follow a plan like Starting Strength, the wiki of which is full of very useful information : http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/Starting_Strength_Wiki
The actual programme is here : http://www.startingstrength.net/workouts/

If you don’t have gym access read Brain over Brawn, a free ebook, which contains lot’s of useful information about dieting and weight loss : http://brainoverbrawn.com/get-the-book/
I highly recommend you read it regardless of your plans, as it will educate you on what is required to lose weight.

With a calorie controlled diet you’ll lose weight, with added cardio you’ll get fit, and with weight lifting you’ll look great, but how much you are prepared to do is up to you.

Don’t overwork yourself and be patient with the diet…it takes time to see real results…drink lots of water & stay away from foods high in calories..ask yourself what your “ideal” weight would like to be..for example, if you want to weigh 120 pounds, you should times that by 10 (120 x 10=1200) and that is how many calories you should be taking in a day, exercise about 30 minutes four to five times a week and stay away from fast food as much as possible. Good Luck!!

Eco Friendly pet health tips?

Hi everyone!

I am currently working on a newsletter for the vet clinic where I work and was looking for quick input. The theme is “Going Green: Eco friendly pet tips” and will cover natural foods, biodegradable litter, composting, and other environmentally friendly products on the market for pet care. Any suggestions on what you do to promote a green pet (cat, dog, fish, pocket pet, horse, anything!) would be greatly appreciated. I just recieved the assignment today and would love to hear from as many of you as possible as soon as possible.

Tell me what you do to go green. Even if it just using recycled materials, I would love to hear and share your suggestions (with your permission – so if you post, it may be published, so by posting here you are giving permission!) with our community, staff, and clientele.

Also – is there one big area of focus you are interested in as pet owners? While the major article will focus on tips in general, I have a secondary and tertiary article to address a particular area of eco friendly pet care in depth. What specific themes would you (as a pet owner) want to know more about? Would you rather read more about natural diets, grooming, waste disposal, specific products.. etc?

Thank you in advanced for all of your ideas and input. If any of you are interested in reading the final product, let me know and I will link you to it (it is posted online as well).

Just as a note so no one gets upset – I will be posting this question under general pet, dogs, and cats to make sure I can recieve a wider range of answers!
Yikes! Not a pet lover are we. Just to note though, animals on thier own are perfectly eco freindly (as they are a natural part of the environment and ecology). What makes pets not eco friendly is the support they require from humans, meaning it is the owners that are not eco friendly. All I am asking is for other people’s opinions on eco friend ways for the owners to care for thier pets – reducing that impact on the environment. If there is nothing educational or informative to be gained, then don’t bother to answer.

I do know some dog owners that have them on veggie diets, much lower carbon footprint. Doesn’t work for cats.
Litter; sawdust pellets or better, shavings, from a local source, composted rather than thrown away, is the only green litter. You cant use the compost for the veg. Patch of course, but its fine for round trees and ornamentals.

I want to be a good dancer (not professional). Have any tips or advice?

admin answers:

In general: the more classes (and therefore the more experience) the better. It depends on your scedule. Don’t take on more than you can handle, especially as you’re at an age where school work is probably about to get that extra bit harder and larger in volume.
A none commital thing to do would be to buy some DVDs, sure it can’t go on your CV but they will make a difference to your fitness and flexibility etc. ‘Pump it Up’ for example is a killer but is great for your fitness and stamina and for a general tone up. Pilates are great, (you could get a book instead), as a dancer they do not build up bulk for on stage, (see Darcey Bussell). There are loads out there, so find one that suits you. In the school term I get up early and do a warm up off one.
Something that might work for you and I am doing a lot more now is; as you already have experience, make up your own workouts using what works for you. I have a load of cards of exercises/stretches that target different areas of the body.
Find a way of keeping fit you enjoy and are likely to keep going at. Just make sure that you don’t overdue it.
Hopefully you’ll find something useful in all that, good luck!

First of all stop this junks,it`s full of fat and salt ,it`s unhealthy and have no nutritions in it.Even if you make the same food at home it would be much healthier.Try to eat more vegs and fruits, cereal, muesli with no added sugar, take salads to work,if you don`t have time to make them-you can buy ready made, drink lots of water,no fizzy drinks-they`ll make you bloated, don`t use too much oil when frying things-meat etc.,the best it`s cooked but if you don`t like even roasted is better. When it comes to exercises the best is running.Try at least 30 min before or after work, few times a week, you`ll look better, feel better and be much healthier as well.Swimming is very good too,or simple walking will do.If you use public transport get off couple of stops before your stop and walk home.

Does anyone know of a good cleanse/detox/diet (for health purposes, not necessarily to lose weight)?

Hi,
I have done the master cleanse (lemonade diet) twice before, and I’d like to do some sort of detoxification type regimen again, but I’d prefer it to be something where I actually eat a little. Like all raw foods, or just something very specific and simple that will have me eating small portions of the best foods to assist in cleansing my system. If anyone knows the name of any kind of cleanses of this nature, please tell me and pass along any details. Also, if you know any websites or books that detail something like that I’d be really interested.
There is a liver and gallbladder cleanse that is done for 3-4 days, and you eat apples for these days, and then on the last day right before you go to bed you have to drink a 1/4 cup of olive oil (gross I know) and then lay on your right side. The apples are full of malic acid which loosens and dissolves stuff in the gallbladder, and the olive oil stimulates your gallbladder to empty its contents. This is good for anyone who has gallstones, eats a lot of fatty, fried food, or doesn’t feel like their digestion is working very well. You can look this up for more detail, under gallbladder apple cleanse. You do not need to buy any expensive pills.

The kidneys are good at cleaning themselves if you take in enough water, epsom salts baths also help your body flush the kidneys, put 2 cups of epsom salts in the bath and relax in hot water for at least 20 minutes. This is a good overall detox that makes you sweat out a lot of nasty stuff too.

I did a Liver cleanse with Super Thistlelyn, you take 5 pills a day for 30 days, try to eat healthy and avoid alcohol (it will make you feel very sick). I found this very effective, but hard to be a saint and avoid a glass of wine here and there, but my skin problems went away. I also had a massage during that cleanse, focused on my stomach, I found that after that I was Very sweaty and stinky.

I’ve done the ionic footbath once before, that left me feeling energized and clear. A friend had one, but I believe you would pay about $30 a session, I only did one but they recommended 3, that seems like a lot to me.

I have used a system like you described and felt nothing. And I know people who have done Isagenix which is very expensive and they felt nothing. I have always liked targeting one or 2 systems at once as opposed to every organ in the body. Toxins are held in fatty tissue and will not be flushed away in a week.

Im 15
a little over 5’7
and weight 175
so im not far from you

-in the beginning of my dieting [and i lost alot of weight this way], i only ate 850 calories a day for 7 days. Then the 8th day i ate whatever i was craving.. This helps because it speeds your metabolism again to burn alot of calories [when your only gonna be taking in 850 the next day] and its something to look forward to so that you dont quit your diet. Do this for 2 weeks and i promise you will see results. But the only problem is after 2 weeks, if you still want to lose more weight, you will have to start a new plan because after 2 weeks, your body adjusts to only burning 850 calories a day.

-Exercise, believe it or not, is better than cutting down on junk food. If you go to the gym, be motivated by the person next to you. The trick i use is like if im on a treadmill and my speed is 3.7 and the person next to me is 3.9.. I go on 4.1 …. If the person next to me burned 200 calories and i only burned 150, i try and go soo much faster than them to beat them.

-Motivation = Success…. If theres a certain celebrity whose body you wish you had [for me its Francia Almendárez], then look at pictures of her and look at yourself in the mirror, and your concious will automatically be more motivated.

- a tip: when eating, eat very slow because the slower you eat, the more you feel like you ate, the easier your full. This is why people say dont eat while you watch tv… Because you are so distracted by tv that you keep on eating everything.

-another tip: drink alot of water

-one last tip: dont drink as you eat because thats known to cause a belly… Wait about 30 minutes after eating to drink. This also helps because your thirst will convince you that your full just because you still got another 30 minutes to go before you can drink.

Good luck.
Hope this helps =)

Like all raw foods, or just something very specific and simple that will have me eating small portions of the best foods to assist in cleansing my system. If anyone knows the name of any kind of cleanses of this nature, please tell me and pass along any details. Also, if you know any websites or books that detail something like that I’d be really interested. What I DON’T want to do is buy some whole system from a company that is going to cost me hundreds of dollars. That’s all I seem to have been able to find so far. Thanks for any help or tips!

Two words: Fiber & Water.

These are our detergents. These clean out our digestive tract. Simply reduce processed foods – eat more fiber, drink more water. Its a process that lasts longer, and has more benefits then the so-called “detox” diets. They only work because they are doing the SAME thing. Giving you mega-doses of fiber and water.

How can I reduce my fat intake while on a low carb diet?

My doctor recently put me on a low carb diabetic diet. I am not a diabetic – yet. I have a very high insulin resistance in which he wants to treat with diet and exercise and diabetic meds. I have been charting everything I eat, the calories, the fat grams, the carbs, fiber and protein. However, since my carbs have decreased, it seems that my fat intake has increased – at least it seems that way in the pie chart. Is it possible to reduce the fat AND carbs? The doc wants me under 35 carbs a day which is extremely hard to do as it is. It seems like the lower fat foods have a higher carb content and the higher fat foods have a lower carb content. I am concerned about my blood lipids, blood pressure and overall heart health. I would greatly appreciate any tips or advice you may have to offer.

Thanks!
Oh, the reason I am so insulin resistant is due to the PCOS that I was diagnosed with a year ago. It’s sypmtoms have started to take over my body very quickly and has deemed me infertile, unless I can drop and control my insulin levels ASAP.

I too have PCOS, insulin resistance and glucose intolerance. I followed the atkins plan and in 12 months lost 125 pounds, came off all meds and my cycle has been normal ever since. My triglycerides and cholesterol and LDL were normal for the first time in my adult life! While I tend to be aware of the fat sources in my diet, it really isn’t necessary to go low fat if you low carb….I’ve kept the weight off for three years now. But if you still want to lower your fats, choose lean protein sources and use oil/fat free cooking methods. Make egg white omelettes and use less cheese. Good luck with your low carbing…it works!

Guinea Pig Diet/Health Questions.?

Hi!
I am now the proud new owner of two little guinea pig brothers. Both males are 10 months old and live together. They have both been neutered. I have an 8 square foot cage but tomorrow I’m going to purchase a 10.5 square foot C&C cage.

1. I have been slowly introducing my vegetables to them. Is it okay to give them 3 different veggies at the same time? I gave them each 1/2 of a baby carrot, 2 stems/leaves of cilantro each, and each half of a half of a romaine leaf. I have been introducing all the 3 at different times the past 2-3 days. This is the first time I fed them half amounts of all 3 together. Is that okay? Can I give them more of each at the same time?

2. Tomorrow I will also be purchasing bell peppers and parsely. Any other good veggie suggestions? And which bell pepper is best to buy?

3. One of my boys has a dirty bottom. I gently have been wiping his little privates with a warm water soaked Q-tip. Is this okay? Should I even be cleaning him? He’s not impacted, he’s not swollen or anything and by the looks he has no blockage, he’s just dirty down there.

4. Could another way of cleaning him be soaking his little bottom in the bath tub or sink for a seconds or is that not good?

5. A stupid mistake on my part, there was a really tiny sticker still on the cage. They chewed some of it off, I’m not sure when it happened but could this be a health concern? I assumed it would just be digested and it wasn’t much. I took the rest off as soon as I noticed it. Both of them are more than willing to eat a TON and they drink a lot (which I was told they do normally)

Thanks!
I have another question… sorry if I seem to ask about everything, I just want the best for the boys.

I notice their eyes are watery? Not sure if that’s the best word? It’s not like they’re running or anything. They just look wet, like not too excessive, but wet. I’m not sure if that describes it but they are fine with everything else. They eat a whole lot and drink a whole lot (the rescue group told me they were big water drinkers). So it isn’t anything I should worry about right? I mean, shouldn’t their eyes be watery looking? Haha, sorry if I sound dumb.

Hey

It sounds like your doing a great job with your new guineas.

1) That sounds good – it is best to introduce things slowly and introducing more than one at once isnt a problem. You can possibly give them a little more – especially of veggies which are high in vitamin C (dark greens, peppers etc).Make sure that they are eating plenty of quality timothy hay as this makes up most their diet.

2) Guinea favourites include: Kale, greens, savoy cabbage and broccoli. I use red peppers but not too much.

3) They are clean animals so should take care of themselves but the way you are cleaning it sounds good. If he has soft stools feed less salad veggies such as lettuce (as they are high in water) and more hay. Keep an eye on him and check he seems healthy in himself. Some lighter coloured guinea pigs can get a little yellow staining if they sit in soiled bedding.

4) You can clean him by soaking him but it can be a little stressful so using a cloth, or cotton wool is best. You can also purchase animal cleaning wipes which might help.

5) Just keep an eye on them that they seem happy and healthy. Guineas are mischevous so will chew anything. Make sure you have plenty of wooden toys in there. Chances are they had fun pulling it off rather than eating it and may have spat it out.

Goodm luck with your new pets. For more info on guinea pig care; health toys etc look at http://www.whichpets.com/#/guinea-pigs/4545865401

Overweight at 25, a last ditch effort to get fit.. any food/health/workout tips?

Hey there guys and gals,

a quick few lines about me. I’m a 25 year old male, and I’ve been overweight since I was around 18. I spend a lot of time using computers for both work and play so thats a lot of time sitting down and not moving around. I’m not that fat that I can’t go out and do some jogging, but that alone won’t cut it at this stage. This is a last ditch effort by me to shake the pounds and start a healthier lifestyle.

When I was 22 I got all hyped up again and for a couple of months I lost a lot of weight, gained a good bit of muscle mass but then the moment I stopped exercising my muscle just disappeared and now Im the same if not a little heavier than before. I would like to know how hard I can push myself or whats the best way to start? Should I be worried about how fast I dive into this incase I hurt my heart or something?

I just want to know a few tips, for example.. I was doing 30 pushups last time a day. Should I do 30 in the morning and 30 the in evening everyday? ( once I build it back up to that ) What about situps? Should I just concentrate on running and dieting before I start doing situps ?

At this point I have zero self respect for myself and the worst part is I know Im a decent enuf looking guy if I only I was in shape. Also changing my diet seems to be quite tough because all the stuff recommended to eat either takes ages to prepare or its so random and weird you just couldn’t swap over that easily.

Anyway I can give more details if needed, also here is another quick question. I wanted to bring up my muscle mass on my arms, should I lose all my weight then maybe start taking creatine or increasing protein into my diet then? Or should I do it now while burning it off everywhere else?. Thanks very much.
The last thing I want is someone posting bad adverts like that about cleaning insides. Im serious here, this is really effecting my life and my confidence which carries over into everything I do, from the work place to my social life.

I feel bad for you – it can be so tough to lose weight and get fit if you are the sort of person who piles on the pounds easily.

With all those questions you sound like the kind of person who would benefit from a personal trainer – someone who can motivate you, and give you a programme that will actually work. I recommend you join a gym and ask about their personal trainers – almost all gyms have them now.

Also in my opinion, if you are very heavy you shouldn’t be doing too much running. A bit will be good for you but too much will put a lot of strain on your knees etc. Much better to do some running combined with using a cross trainer and maybe a rowing machine. These machines will also help to tone your upper body. Maybe cycling too!

Finally if your main goal is slimming down don’t worry too much about lifting weights – maybe 1 session per week. And forget the creatine for now! Most of your activity should be fairly long cardio vascular sessions. Some weight training is good though, lean muscle uses calories even when it’s not doing anything!
This is where the personal trainer comes in – they will create a program and tailor it to you exactly.

Finally do some group exercise – either classes at the gym, or take up a team sport. You are much more likely to stick with it if you have other people to motivate you. If you can’t afford the personal trainer then this is also the next best thing.

You can acheive all this during evenings and weekends, it doesn’t matter that you sit in front of a computer all day! Good luck.

Qucik Tips:

Stop eating red meat.
You don’t have to get religious about it – just choose something other than the burger or steak. Stick to white meats (pork, chicken, turkey, fish), eggs and beans for proteins. This will have two effects: 1. It’s healtheir on your heart and 2. You’ll find that you eat less fast food, less fried food and fewer of the fattening things usually served with red meat.

Watch the carbs.
Don’t eat meals high in carbohydrates (pasta, bread, potato) unless you are going to be excersizing a lot over the following 24 hours. Carbs are great for energy and your muscles need them when they are working to absorb oxygen from your blood stream… But if you’re not burning them off in excersize then your body will store them – in fat.

Sit-Ups.
If it’s the bulge in the tummy that bothers you most, nothing will drop those pounds and make you look (and feel) better than doing sit-ups. Everyday. 4 reps of 25. It will olny take a few minutes a day to do this… And the first week will hurt. BUt after that it’s a piece of cake (forgive the pun) and the results are astonishing.

admin answers:

There is a simple equation for weight loss.

Energy In > Energy Out = Weight Gain

Energy Out < Energy In = Weight Loss

Weight loss is very difficult. That is because it involves a lifestyle change and not a quick fix such as a diet. I am going to tell you a little secret we learn in university that they don't want the public to know . DIETS DON'T WORK. If anyone else posts an answer that involves a magic "diet" , "pill", or "get thin quick" program than they are lying .

There are 3 tips I am going to give you to tell your friend. They are not magic, they are not temporary but they will work .

Tip 1 : Exercise (but not the "boring stuff') – if going to the gym is boring for her, then it is not her thing. There are hundreds of activities that are fun and will help you lose weight. A word of warning though , exercise is not working unless you sweat, your legs feel tired and you do it for more than half an hour, three to five times a week. Everyone has time for that , and if you exercise with her it will be even more fun ! (don't assume exercise won't benefit you because you are skinny)

Tip 2 : Apples….haha ok this isn't some crazy apple only diet , nor do I mean to only eat apples. I am simply saying before your friend goes to eat a treat (lets say a bowl of ice cream) tell her to eat a piece of fruit before. It sounds strange but the reason most diets don't work is that you are always hungry, and you can't give up your favourite foods for the rest of your life. It is better to eat many small healthy snacks throughout the day and if you do want a piece of cake, eat the fruit first.

Tip 3: "Rome wasn't built in a day" . Your friend isn't going to wake up tomorrow and suddenly start to exercise every day and eat healthy. Tell her to set 3 goals a month that are things she CAN do. Eventually exercising everyday and eating healthy won't be so hard.

Do not be discouraged if she doesn't drop 100 pounds overnight, proper weightloss that will stay off FOREVER will happen slowly (usually only a pound a week). But keep at it and eventually the weight will come off.

best diet /weight loss tips for pcos sufferer?

i was diagnosed with pcos last year ,late last year, and since then have regular reviews/etc at my docs,am supposed to go back to the hospital to see the gyno, but was put off as she offered me no words of wisdom, other than your weight is caused by the syndrome, but you need to lose it,come back in 6mths.
Doc wasn’t over the moon that she’d said this, but said it would be more of a case of advice and help to me on the diet side, and any other treatment/medicines for it eg the pcos.
Anyhow,i have seen a dietician at my docs, she said i am to watch everything i eat and in look at labels and follow it by 100gms ,so per 100gms i should not eat anything with more than 10gms sugar, and 5-8gms of fat. I have tried doing this a bit but have not really felt that it will help, also not sure what the best tip is with pcos to lose weight,i have read in some places, cut down on carbs, but then i’m sort of picking at things and end up bingeing on them again,i am aware about the connection with carbs and the blood sugar etc.

Anyone who is a health care professional that is able to advise,or anyone with good advice or similar situation, would like to hear from you. Thanks
ok,why did the dietician tell me to eat only high bran/wholemeal/wholegrain carbs, and watch the fat and sugar but not watch the calories, she said she would not go onto that at the moment.
Also i have been told that pcos does make it harder to lose weight,i have already lost half a stone god knows how,i am on cerazzette pill cause it doesn’t contain oestrogen, and to help acne, and also am taking metformin 1, 3 times a day
could you give me some advice of how to find out about the diet that the 2nd answerer mentioned?? Vitaline?

Find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
Eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast – they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner – repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
Ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
“diet groups” usually have too little calorie daily plans so you might lose water weight and muscle but not fat and slow down metabolism (less muscle- slower metabolism) and as soon as you start eating normal you gain even more back.

admin answers:

I think your breakfast is too small. Maybe add some fruit and some protein (eggs, peanut butter). Your lunch looks pretty good. For your dinner, it’s generally best to avoid fast food, some perhaps you could do a home-cooked meal, with whole grains, lean protein and plenty of vegetables. Your workout regime sounds pretty good.

15, i need to lose a little weight, tips for diet and exercise, please help.?

to start this off, im a 15 year old boy. i’ve been a vegetarian for 3 1/2 years now and im not healthy. i didn’t start being one for the health aspect though, just for the whole animal thing. i eat a lot of processed foods, veggie burgers, tofu, ETC. i’m also kind of picky, there aren’t to many veggies i like but i try and tolerate most of them, i love fruit though. but what i need help on is losing weight, im not too overweight but im just a little on the pudgy side, im not looking to get buff, i could care less, im just tired of having no stamina and not being happy with my body. i dont drink very much soda but i feel it’s enough but im stopping. i just sort of have man boobs and chubby-ish belly, any diet and exersize tips would be great, i might start eating meat if that would make me healthier. please help.

admin answers:

Get rid of that vegetarian mind set. No matter if you eat meat or not the same amount of animals are going to die. You might as well eat meat so it doesn’t go to waste. Second, you need protein in your diet which comes from MEAT. Third don;t drink ANY sodas.. None.. Zero.. NOT EVEN DIET ONES! Fourth eat small meals though out the day. It speeds up your metabolism. Don’t sit don’t sit down and indulge 3 times a day. Don’t ever eat until you are stuffed either. Fifth. Get enough sleep but not to much. Rest is important. 8 hours a day. Not 8 hours starting at 2am and going to 10am. Sixth – Do cardio in the morning on an empty stomach. When you are done eat some fruit and something like oatmeal. Grilled chicken is great for you. Low fat in fat and calories. Seventh – Stay away from frozen meals. They are loaded with sodium.. Once you get your diet straightened out get on a work out routine. If you have problems with motivation getting to the gym just think about all the chicks there with nice bodies you get too see. Thats what keeps me going atleast.

bodybuilding/workout/health tips please?

howdy! um, just got some questions that i would to know which is i am concern of. i am 21 years old weighing only 110+ lbs. yeah you can picture it out how thin am i.lol not good for a man to have such weight right? well, i dont do outdoor activities so am guessing i got it from being always sitting at my computer most of the time and i also have fast metabolism so thats it. after realizing am not getting any good for doing those things, workouts came across my mind and now am starting to get fit. just want to get everyone’s opinion (from those are doing gym of course as well) how to get started and what such things do i have to maintain, well some say you have to take some supplements if you want to do workouts. do i also have to lift weights weighing around 70 kg./150lbs. for me to get ripped? or how do i actually do it correctly? 150lbs. is a hell heavy for me taking into account my thinness (150lbs). i just get confused when some say you wont get any improvement if you just lift light weights, other says heavy weights for muscle thickness and light wights for cut muscles. having fast metabolism is also a problem for me to gain some weights but proper diet, rest, consuming essential fatty acids and other healthy foods and workouts as well will give me good result i think. hope some gym instructor or some ripped guy here with lot of experience at gym could help me. thanks fella

I would recommend you to do the workout regimen which I am doing:

I eat around 3500-4000 calories a day. You may need less than that, that was what I was doing when bulking up, but I am 6’2. Make it 5-6 meals per day.

I always train only two muscle groups which go together. Try to hit 10reps on each machine. Here is my regimen
Monday – Biceps and Back,

Wednesday – Triceps, Shoulders and Chest

Friday – Legs and Abs

Remember it is also important that you take Portein(around 1g per pound) supplement which works as food for your body together with supplement which increase Nitric Oxide and HGH levels in your body.

You can check my bodybuilding journey in my website. I will provide link to it in the “source” field. I went from 175 to 201lbs.

Erm… Firstly, Please ignore that link which has just been posted!!!

You don’t say how tall you are which makes all the difference to your whether you weigh more than you should, but from the sounds of it I cant imagine that you have anything to worry about! You are still growing, so wont fit your clothes forever!!! (sad I know when you have favourites!!)

As you get older you will become more curvy, so what you see as ‘chunky’ surely isn’t! All women are wider at their hips!

It sounds like, at your age and weight, you really don’t need to be dieting. When I was about that age I was so scared that I was getting too big and got so preoccupied with it I found myself obsessing over it and wound up very upset. I wasted so much time on this I missed out on so much!

The best advice I can offer is that you should spend more time doing ‘stuff’. Walking is an excellent exercise and will make you feel better. Even if its only walking with your friends round the shops!!! Or join a sports team, or do some volunteer work that involves being out and about, like tidying up a local park!!!

Anyways.. I hope this helps.

Please don’t worry about you weight as your sound ABSOLUTELY FINE!!!

Any Meats, Poultry, Seafood and Eggs√

You can eat these liberally (but don’t gorge yourself). The only exceptions are that you should keep organ meats and lunch meats to a minimum, but eating none would be great.

Cheese√

Three to four ounces of cheeses, including hard cheeses such as cheddar, goat cheeses, cream cheese, gouda, mozzarella, Swiss, and the various blue cheeses. After Induction, you can also add limited amounts of farmer’s cheese and cottage cheese.

Salad Vegetables√

Up to three cups of these vegetables a day. Use vinegar and oil on these, not sugary dressings. This is a long list of foods you CAN eat:

Sprouts, mushrooms, arugula, endive, parsley, bok choy, escarole, peppers, celery, fennel, chicory, radicchio, radishes, lettuces such as iceberg, romaine, Boston, Bibb and green leaf, cucumbers, sorrel and chives.
Vegetables√

Here’s where you might get confused! There are lots of allowable veggies on this diet food list that you can eat, but just as many that you can’t eat because they have hidden starches. Stick with this list, and you’ll do fine(if it’s not on the list dont eat it):

Artichokes Eggplant Tomato Collard Greens
Celery Spinach Leeks Scallions
Pumpkin Broccoli Cabbage Turnips
Rhubarb String Beans Wax Beans Brussel Sprouts
Bamboo Shoots Kale Sauerkraut Chard
Cauliflower Kohlrabi Beet Greens Zucchini
Summer Squash Water Chestnuts Spaghetti Squash

Seasonings√

Seasonings to taste are fine, but be sure to check the labels. You don’t want any that list sugar as an ingredient.

Oils√

Oils, especially olive oil, which is good for your heart as well as your diet. Also acceptable are canola, soybean and sunflower and sesame oils. Butter is also fine, but not margarine, which has too many trans fats.

Sweeteners√

Artificial sweeteners that are on the approved on this diet food list include Splenda and saccharine. Others, such as Equal (a brand name for aspartame), aren’t a good idea because it slows weight loss in some people.

Follow this…just trust me i swear. This will help you so much. Me and some family did it and its soooo great!!!!!!!!!!

Need some health tips?

I am 6 foot and about 190 pounds, so not really in terrible shape, but I would like to lose 20 or more pounds pretty quickly. Right now I cut out all soda and all I drink is Vitamin Water, Lots of Water, and an occasional diet Green Tea. As far as my diet goes, I just started sort of dieting last week, I eat a pop tart and an apple for breakfast, and at school for lunch I usually get something like a grilled chicken and lettuce wrap, then for dinner, a small portion of pasta and salad. I also go on a 3 or 4 mile jog 4 or 5 nights a week, as well as lifting weights for about 45 minutes before jogging.

What are some suggestions on going the extra mile to lose about 20 or more within a month of 2

admin answers:

I would remove the Vitamin Water and Pop Tarts.

Vitamin Water’s benefits are practically nonexistent if you factor in the disadvantages (please read more here: http://healthy-eating.fitsugar.com/Truth-About-Vitamin-Water-541747)

It has about 13g of sugar, which is about 1/4 of a soda. Sugar is counter-productive in weight loss – it’s very easy for the body to process too quickly and readily, you should try to eat foods that have a lower glycemic index so that the sugar content is broken down at a more gradual pace.

Pop tarts have partially hydrogenated oils (trans fat), which mimic the basic function of other fats, but don’t fully perform the same role. They are allowed to get away with not labeling their product as containing trans fat because the food industry and FDA probably values partially hydrogenated oils too highly for their cost-saving effectiveness (as opposed to HEALTH-saving effectiveness, go figure). I would suggest that you replace the pop tarts with a meal consisting of oats, or other grains, maybe some fruit, and perhaps an avocado for the unsaturated fat. Unsaturated fats keep your cell walls more fluid, while keeping the right things out of your cell. Saturated fats don’t. Trans fat are the worst of all, they let things in that shouldn’t get into your cells.

Chicken is great. Turkey products are also good. Eggs are good. Most of your calories should come from carbs, but be sure to keep the fat and protein up to about 20% of your caloric intake, each. So, carbs about 60%. You can play with this ratio based on your goals, over time.

I would consider a circuit workout. You can still lift weights, but a circuit workout incorporates a more “cardio” aspect to it all, so you get a very good well-rounded workout. If you have a good circuit consisting of 6+ exercises, and do the circuit 3 times, you might be able to ditch the running, depending on how long it takes to complete the circuit. It’s always good to do some cardio for extended periods of time. I usually go surf for several hours, and even though it’s not strenuous every second I’m out there, it’s periodically strenuous and I’m ALWAYS making my body perform small balancing movements (I have to stay centered on the board, sit upright and not fall, paddle around often, paddle hard for a wave, balance on the wave, get thrown under water by a wave – lots of strenuous stuff happening, but not 100% of the time).

Anyway, I hope that helps.

That is seriously Tiny for your age! I am 13, 5’2 and weigh 105, and im not chunky or fat.
You really dont need to diet, if you want to tone up and build muscle then exercise, but you are already under weight for your age, losing more weight could be bad for your health.

I think that you are on the right idea and set of mind, but you just need to change some things up. Have a couple of 30 minute workouts during the week (3-4 at best). Make sure your diet is correct. Make sure your sweet and sugar intake is low. I know it is extremely hard, for these are some of the things that I want to include in my life as well, but don’t try to over work your mind and body to a point that isn’t possible right away. And make sure that you have no stress or negativity around you, for no matter how hard and long you want to work out, that can be an overbearing factor. Good luck girl.

Health Tips For Senior Cat? What food has worked best for your Cat?

My cat is going on 13. This past month he has been throwing up his food so I switched to a Senior Science diet food (before just store bought stuff). He has been throwing up alot less but still does form time to time. When he does, the food bits do not look digested.
He has a vet appointment in a few days so please don’t just say..take him to the vet. I’m looking for experienced cat owners who have handled a senior cat before. This is my first one. He is very perky still, plays with my other cat, drinks water all the time so he doesn’t act sick.

Is there a difference between Science Diet SENIOR food (for 11 and up) and Science Diet Sensitive Stomach? Wonder if the Sensitive stomach would do him better? But its 20 bucks a bag..so I thought I would ask for some advice before heading to the store tomorrow.

Thank you for your advice!

Agree – Science Diet is a low quality food and one I like to avoid. My senior kitty gets Taste of the Wild dry food for breakfast and a variety of canned food for supper. My favorites of canned food include Felidae, Chicken Soup, and Authority. Authority is a Petsmart brand but the others should be available at smaller pet stores or feed stores. Try for grain free if at all possible. Cats are carnivores and should have a nice meaty diet. Things like corn and wheat often don’t sit well with them so avoiding them is a good idea. Other than that, canned food tends to be more easily digested than any dry food, making it especially good for senior kitties and kitties with upset stomachs. Good luck!

1.If you go to the petstore you got him from and just get “rabbit grainj/pellets” then that will be fine for nutrients. If you want to give him treats I would suggest carrots, apples, grass, apple tree branches to chew on. You can give a rabbit pretty much any vegetable but iceberg lettuce because that makes rabbits extremely sick. And remember not to give too many treats at a time! One babycarrot is the perfect treat for a day.
2.Most rabbits don’t need vets unless you are going to show it. Then it will need shots and possibly a tattoo and even then, because it is so small, it won’t be too expensive.
3.Rabbits can be pretty hyper animals like for example, at night it might run around its cage for hours just for exercise..or because its bored. But during the day it might lay down on its side and soak up the sun. Just get used to whats “normal” for your rabbit and then if you see him doing something odd, call a vet.
4.Rabbit poop is like little round marbles (suppose to be) If a rabbit has diarrhea, stop giving them treats for a while and if it doesn’t stop, take it to a vet.
5.For a rabbit cage, make sure it is at least 4 times the size of the rabbit..but the bigger the cage the better. If you have a small cage, you should get a run so you can let it out and run around. Rabbits don’t need toys. The only thing I put in my rabbit cages are salt licks, litter boxes, wood shavings and food and water. That is all they need. You can buy little houses that they can chew on for entertainment if you’d like. Good luck and have fun with the new pet!

admin answers:

You can lose more body fat eating protein & fat (don’t eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast, eat all you want, but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter & half an avocado a day (for added potassium). Keep the calories high & the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

The first 2 weeks eat several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce & celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers & more variety of vegetables thereafter – add 5 grams per day additional every week (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) til you gain weight, then subtract 10grams. That will be your personal carb level (everyone is different & depends on how active you are.)

Start with meat, fats & salads for 2 weeks and then slowly add in more green veg, wk4 fresh cheeses, wk5 nuts & seeds, wk6 berries, wk7 legumes, wk8 other fruits, wk9 starchy veg, wk10 whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods.

The first week is just water weight but fat is lost thereafter if you keep your calories high enough. Otherwise the body will strip it’s own lean tissue for nutrition. Although that may look great on a scale it will make it MUCH easier to accumulate fat in the future (since all that pesky lean tissue burning up calories will be gone). The body won’t release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow metabolism to compensate & store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering calories, it will continue lowering the set point, til it can survive off nothing & store fat on anything. The body will only release it’s fat stores if it knows there is plenty of nutritious food.

Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) & exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.

The core of Atkins program is converting the body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). Dietary fat levels need to be at >65% of total calories, if not, the body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).

It takes minimum of 3 days to convert a body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis). People feel sluggish the first week but most feel better than ever thereafter.

Carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice, beans) trigger insulin (the ONLY fat storage hormone). Protein triggers the fat burning hormone glucagon.

Simple carbs are addictive & can be disastrous to health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs, eat one every time you want “something” – have huge omelets with bacon, sausage, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops smothered with peppers, mushrooms & cheese – pork rinds & dip or tuna/chicken/turkey/egg salad – steaks – a huge sugar free cheese cake. Eat so much you won’t feel deprived of anything. By the 4th day, the addiction will be gone & you can start making healthy choices.

High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger & unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase muscle mass with high HGH levels.

Ground flax seed (2-4 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg – let sit 10 min. To absorb liquid, put cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 min. For daily fiber needs.

As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn't gain weight, no matter the calories because insulin, the fat storage hormone is not activated. Many people gain weight on high carb, do low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb & gain weight.

Most overweight & obese people have blood sugar & insulin dysfunctions and can NEVER eat carbs as someone with a functioning body can. They make the mistake of going back to the way of eating that made them fat and that is not possible and yes they will gain all weight back if they eat what they ate that made them obese originally. Insanity is defined as doing the exact same thing, in the exact same way and expecting different results. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar & maintain weight or health.

Wrong section if your looking for health-advice buddy, vegetarians aren’t into fad atkins diets & the likes. We eat healthy food day in day out & thats it.
Carbs are necessary for energy, protein when converted does have a high energy level but it is very complicated for the human body to ”swap” folds of amino acids for the right format for energy. Human body runs off glucose that is why energy drinks are given for extra time to zap into your body a high glucose & electrolyte level, carbs like starch (rice/beans etc) are slow releasing energy which is what you want. Runners live off these, water is an absolute vital must for high performance sport like rugby. A loss of 2% can have detrimental effects (i think it was 10%?) on performance.

If this helps here are some vegan athletes ie they eat NO animal produce in their diet, these are only a list of very fit & respected athletes there are numerous more
Georges Laraque (pro ice hockey)
Robert Cheeke (bodybuilder)
Brendan Brazier (triathlete)
Adam Myerson (pro-Cyclist)
Scott Jurek (Ultramarathon runner, won numerous times)
David Zabriskie (pro Cyclist)
